Happy Men's Health Month! Here are some tips and tricks for wellness over 50:

    1. Stay active: Exercise regularly, even if it's just a daily walk. This can help maintain muscle mass, improve flexibility, and reduce the risk of chronic illness. One of the best ways to stay active and mobile as you age is to keep moving. As we get older, we are more prone to arthritis. Remember that arthritis is normal, and it’s even more of a reason to keep moving and continue to enjoy your favorite activities
    1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to maintain good overall health and prevent dehydration. As you get older, it’s even more important to stay hydrated. A study from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing found that up to 40% of elderly people may be chronically underhydrated. Keep track of your hydration in Espyr Connect to monitor how much water you drink daily. This will help you to drink more water and keep track.
    1. Practice stress management techniques: Meditation, deep breathing, talking with loved ones, or pursuing relaxing activities will help you destress and bring joy to your daily life. Or start a new activity such as gardening, doing a home improvement project, or volunteering.
    1. Eat a balanced diet: Focus on nutrient-dense foods, including fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. This can help maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of chronic illnesses. Pick healthy fats, which can serve as a source of concentrated, healthy calories. Healthy eating plates are great. Healthy fats include olive oil, canola oil, peanuts and other nuts, peanut butter, avocado, and fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, and mackerel. Limit unhealthy saturated fat, including fatty red meat. As always, consult with your physician if you are thinking about changing your diet.
    1. Stay socially connected: Engage with family, friends, and community members to maintain social connections and prevent isolation. Join an exercise group or find a volunteer position that fits your skills. Make new friends and step out of your comfort zone.
    1. Prioritize sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night to improve cognitive function, mood, and overall health.
    1. Get regular check-ups: Schedule regular appointments with your healthcare provider to stay on top of any health concerns. The healthiest thing you can do is stay proactive with your health and not let aches, pains, or issues continue. Don’t let illness rob you of your health. 1. Reflect on Life Goals: Take time to reflect on your life goals and celebrate what you have accomplished. We can easily let life pass us by without recognizing the amazing achievements that got you where you are today. It is also good to go back to goals you are still working towards and reflect if they need to change based on your accomplishments. Ask yourself, does this bring purpose or meaning into my life?
